Ganong’s Grins

Well, it’s that time of year again.  Time to begin another school year.  That means we are all getting a year older.  Hooray!  I’m excited to meet all the new students and get to know each of you.  I hope you bring your best attitude and are ready to learn.  I know I will.  See you soon!!!!

Summer time is for relaxing and enjoying yourself.  I have been reading and enjoying playing with my granddaughter.  I hope you are enjoying your summer.  Let me know!

Please help your child look through his/her things and around the house for any books that may belong to one of us or the school library.  We don’t mind the kids taking them to read, but we are not getting them back.  Our classroom libraries have been depleted.  If you find any books please send them back to school with your child to give back to his/her homeroom teacher.  We will make sure they get back where they need to be.  Thanks for your help with this matter.

5th graders will enjoy Field Day on May 7th. Students need to wear shorts and athletic shoes. Field Day will occur on the Roughneck Football field. Parents are invited to come and watch. Let’s have fun cheering for each other.

On May 1, 2009 the 5th graders will be taking a field trip to the White Oak Park and to Mr. Brewer’s home.  Mr. and Mrs. Brewer are so kind to open up their home to the fifth grade each year.  They invite us to explore their antique cars and museum style garage which is set up with antiques from the early years.  Also the WO fire department and police department will  be at the Brewer’s home for students to look at their vehicles and ask questions.  At the park we will enjoy lunch and playing kickball.  After all the hard work for the TAKS test we want to enjoy the day with our students.   Fifth graders does this sound like a good time?

Science TAKS test will be April 30th.  All 5th grade teachers are teaching Science for the next two weeks as a review.  We know our students will do great!!!

The Easter party is April 9th from 10-11:30.  Students need to bring 12 candy filled plastic eggs and an egg carton.  We will have the party on the football field.  There will be fun games and snacks for all.
