Moving on to 6th grade

Okay SmieyThis has been such a wonderful group of students that I have bitter sweet feelings about announcing a parent orientation meeting at the middle school giving important information for 6th grade.  This meeting will be Tuesday, May 22 at 6:00 at the middle school.

Please try to schedule this time in as there will be much information given about the upcoming school year.  Have a wonderful summer!

5th Grade Field Day

Cheerleader SquadCome Cheer on our 5th graders during Field Day on Friday, May 11th.  Field Day starts at 8:20.  You may check out your child with their homeroom teacher after field day.  If a student is riding home with another parent please send a note.  Wear old clothes (you will get wet) and tennis shoes (NO flip flops or sandals).  If you plan on staying at school bring dry clothes to change into because your clothes will be wet.  During the afternoon we will watch a movie or have a read in.  Students need to bring a bottle water with their name on it for the morning.  Each teacher will have a cooler with ice for our students.  Come celebrate the last field day with your child.  Hope to see you there!

5th grade Field Trip

On May 4, 2012 the 5th graders will be taking a field trip to the White Oak Park and to Mr. Brewer’s home.  Mr. and Mrs. Brewer are so kind to open up their home to the fifth grade each year.  They invite us to explore their antique cars and museum style garage which is set up with antiques from the early years.  Also the WO fire department and police department will  be at the Brewer’s home for students to look at their vehicles and ask questions.  At the park we will enjoy lunch and playing kickball.  After all the hard work for the STAAR test we want to enjoy the day with our students.   Students need to wear tennis shoes and shorts for this day of fun.  Fifth graders does this sound like a good time?

Easter Party

Our fifth grade Easter party is this Thursday, April 5th, from 1:15  until 2:00. Parents can check their child out after the party with their homeroom teacher.  Please remember to bring 1 dozen plastic eggs filled with goodies as well as an egg carton with your name on it. We are looking forward to a fun-filled afternoon!

Friday is Good Friday and a school holiday.  Have a blessed Easter!

Benchmark Testing This Week

This Wednesday, February 22, and Thursday, February 23, fifth grade students will be taking a 4- hour benchmark test in math and reading which is a practice for the upcoming STAAR tests on March 27 and 28.  Students are allowed to bring two pieces of gum to school to chew during this test.  One piece is for before lunch and the other piece is for after lunch.  Students may not chew gum outside of their testing locations.  Please do not bring food to your child during these two testing days.  Students may bring a lunch from home or eat a lunch from the cafeteria.  The goal is for students to feel comfortable with the testing procedures so that on the real test day they can do their very best.
